Walk through the woods to Terra Maris in Oostkapelle. In the museum and the landscape garden, you’ll learn a lot about the Walcherse dunes; you can climb the motte for the view and continue on to Westhove Castle and the dune forest.

Plan a walk in the Oranjezon nature reserve. Follow the marked route through dune valleys and coniferous woodland; in the early morning or at sunset, you’ll have a good chance of spotting fallow deer and Konik horses. Binoculars come in handy.

You’ll be staying in Oostkapelle on Walcheren, with the dune and woodland landscape of De Manteling and the Oranjezon nature reserve right behind the village. Here, you can walk or cycle along winding paths to Westhove Castle and the Terra Maris museum, or head to the beach for a day by the sea. Lake Veerse Meer is nearby for sailing and stand-up paddleboarding; you’ll find starting points at Veere and Vrouwenpolder. Cycle along the coast to Domburg for art and a cup of coffee, or head to Middelburg for the Abbey and shops. Veere, with its historic harbour, is close by for an evening stroll along the quayside. Distances are manageable: Domburg is about 3 km away, Veere about 8 km and Middelburg about 10 km. This means you have nature, the beach and historic villages within easy reach, without having to make long journeys.
