Oostkapelle: cozy family seaside resort

When you say Oostkapelle, we think of wide sandy beaches, natural areas and a characteristic village center. You have several nice restaurants there, are within minutes by the sea, as well as in beautiful natural areas. In short, the ideal base for doing all kinds of fun things with your travel companion and (possibly) faithful four-legged friend.

Activities in Oostkapelle

Oostkapelle: fun for every age and every season! In summer perfect for sunbathing on the beach and in autumn ideal for getting a breath of fresh air. There are several beach pavilions where you can enjoy lunch, drinks or dinner such as pavilion Zeecafé or the Piraat. Also fun is the Kaslokaal, a tea garden in a former greenhouse where you can order delicious coffee, cakes, high tea and/or lunch. There is also a green store where you can buy the cutest garden-related items. Are you visiting Oostkapelle in the summer months? Then be sure to visit the weekly seasonal market on Thursdays between 10:00 am and 7:00 pm.

Nature reserves De Manteling and Oranjezon

What makes Oostkapelle truly special is its nature! For a brisk walk in a beautiful dune and forest landscape, head to De Manteling nature reserve of some 740 acres between Domburg and Oostkapelle. Or head to nature reserve Oranjezon where you can enjoy hiking through sheltered dune valleys, forest, dune scrub and dune grassland. Be sure to bring your camera, because with any luck you’ll meet a fallow deer or roe!

When you take a walk through De Manteling, you’ll also discover Westhove Castle. This castle dates back to the 12th century and is in the top 5 castles of the Netherlands in 2022! Once the castle was very powerful with a forecourt, main building, moats, ramparts, bridges, gates and towers. Of these, only the lower parts of some towers and part of the wallwork remain. Despite the drastic changes, it is still an impressive castle which is well worth seeing.
