Also in Terneuzen, the festival De Ballade is one not to miss. Or how about City of Dance in Middelburg, Festival Onderstroom in Vlissingen or Groede Festival? In short, plenty to do for music lovers.

• Zeeland has many sporting events. Especially sports practiced on the beach and water such as the Coastal Marathon of Zeeland (walking and running) and DAM-X (windsurfing) in Brouwersdam. Cycling fans should be sure to check out the Delta Ride for the Roses and the Vestingcross for cyclocross riders in Hulst. Or participate in the NK counterwind cycling, where you cycle 9 kilometers across the Oosterschelde barrier against the wind in the storm. Fan of dirt bikes? Then put the Beach Cross in Flushing in your calendar right away!

Zeeland has many fishing villages that all turn out once a year with a fun fair, live music, local specialties and activities. Think of the fishing festivals in Breskens, Yerseke and Bruinisse.

Zeeland overflows with nature. For example, you have the largest nature reserve in Western Europe, Het Verdronken Land van Saeftinghe, located in East Zeeland Flanders. Or the new nature reserve “De Waterdunen” in Zeeuws-Vlaanderen where the landscape changes every hour due to low tide. A true paradise for birds! Are you a fan of forests, shrubs and dunes? This combination can be found in the Oranjezon nature reserve where fallow deer can also be spotted.

During your stay in Zeeland, you are bound to spot unusual bird species. Especially around the Eastern Scheldt storm surge barrier and Waterdunen, many species can be seen. Think silver and golden plover, cormorant, blue harrier and various geese and ducks. In addition, there is a good chance you will see seals or porpoises. Both at the Eastern and Western Scheldt. Be sure to bring binoculars if you book a local tour or when sunbathing on the beach. Every now and then you’ll see a curious head surface and feast your eyes!
