About Het Hoogland
The Highlands consists of four comfortable, single-story apartments for four to six people. The vacation rentals are located in a historic barn that has partially retained its authentic charm. As a result, history and modern comfort blend seamlessly here.
During your stay, you’ll have a view of the farmyard, where work takes place every day. That’s exactly what makes this location special. Every now and then, a tractor drives by, and in the yard you’ll regularly come across animals that are an integral part of farm life.
4 modern, stylish apartments
The four apartments can accommodate four to six people and each has its own unique character. Although the layout is largely the same, each apartment has its own style and charming decor. This means that every stay feels just a little different, while you can always count on the same level of comfort. Each apartment features a fully equipped kitchen, a modern bathroom, and three bedrooms. Thanks to its single-level layout, the accommodation is also accessible to a variety of travel groups, from families to large family vacations.
Outside, you’ll find a private patio with a spacious garden table, six chairs, and a parasol. Here, you can start your day with a leisurely breakfast or wind down in the evening while looking out over the farmyard and the surrounding polders. It’s precisely this combination of a modern apartment and vibrant farm life that makes a stay at Het Hoogland so special.
The common area
Are you traveling with a larger group or planning a family weekend? There’s a common area on the property that can be rented separately upon request. It features a spacious seating area and long dining tables that seat up to 24 people. In addition, the space features a fully equipped kitchen with a Quooker, dishwasher, oven, refrigerator, and induction cooktop. This gives you plenty of room to cook, eat, or play a game together, while everyone still has the privacy of their own apartment afterward.
What to do in the area
Het Hoogland is located at the foot of the dike, right in the middle of the open polder landscape of Zeeuws-Vlaanderen. If you enjoy walking or biking, all you have to do is step outside to fully enjoy the peace and open space. The area is characterized by green fields, winding dikes, and sweeping views. Water lovers will also feel right at home here. Perkpolder Beach is about 10 kilometers away, while the nearby dike invites you to take a refreshing walk with a view of the Westerschelde.
Despite its rural location, there’s plenty to explore in the surrounding area. Terneuzen, about a 14-minute drive away, is a charming port city where the Westerschelde River is always nearby. For historic streets, shops, and cozy outdoor cafes, it’s less than a 20-minute drive to the fortified town of Hulst. Axel is also about an 18-minute drive away and is particularly appealing to golf enthusiasts thanks to its 18-hole golf course. For your daily groceries, head to nearby Kloosterzande. On hot summer days, the outdoor swimming pool there is also a great spot for a refreshing dip. This way, you can easily combine the tranquility of the polders with a day trip in the surrounding area.
